Writing about hyper-technical topics such as data center energy efficiency

The digital revolution has a dirty problem: energy and water use in data centers is prodigious. But together with my editors at American Builders Quarterly, we explored what Facebook's data center gurus are doing to change that. I was initially intimidated by the topic – I alone amongst my siblings studied journalism, not engineering – but breaking it down into its pieces enabled me to tackled the subject. It was the cover story of the October 2014 edition of ABQ.
